Rascal Flatts and the Gospel?...

So, I love when I'm listening to a song,
and the lyrics just really stick out to me.
For example, I've been in a real Rascal Flatts mood lately.
I just want to listen to them all the time at work.
And, they're concert is in September,
so, if you want to donate to the
'Send Vanessa to the Rascal Flatts Concert' fund,
I take cash and check :)
Haha, but in all seriousness...
the title of this post -
Rascal Flatts and the Gospel?
Did you ever think I would find a correlation?
Well, I did.
So, I was listening...
One of their songs come on...
"Here"
Ok, for starters,
I've always loved this song.
Basically, I just love Rascal Flatts,
but this line stuck out to me...

"And if that's the road
God made me take to be with you
And I'd relive all the years
And be thankful for all the tears
I've cried with every stumbled step
That led to you and got me here, right here"

Ok, now, don't get me wrong,
this song is about meeting the perfect girl
(it would be guy in my case)
but having to go over some bumps in the road
to get to that person first.
But...(here's where my correlation comes in)...
It's all about God's timing!
For reals.
Sometimes we have to go through some little,
some major, and some not so fun bumps to get to
the places or to the people He wants us to be at or with.
A good friend of mine shared this talk on his facebook
page and I absolutely loved reading the entire talk!
It was a BYU devotional in 2002.
Elder Dallin H. Oaks gave a talk perfectly titled, "Timing."

Faith and trust in the Lord give us the strength
to accept and persist, whatever happens in our lives...
Do not rely on planning every event of your life -
even every important event.
Stand ready to accept the Lord's planning
and the agency of others in matters that inevitably
affect you. Plan, of course, but fix your planning
on personal commitments that will carry you
through no matter what happens.
Anchor your life to eternal principles,
and act upon those principles whatever the
circumstances and whatever the actions of others.
Then you can away the Lord's timing and be sure
of the outcome in eternity.
The most important principle of timing
is to take the long view.
Mortality is just a small slice of eternity,
but how we conduct ourselves here -
what we become by our actions and desires,
confirmed by our covenants and the ordinances
administered to us by proper authority -
will shape our destiny for all eternity.
As the prophet Amulek taught,
"This life is the time for men to prepare
to meet God" (Alma 34:32).
That reality should help us take the long view -
the timing of eternity.

  The entire talk is fabulous.
I totally recommend that you read it.
I love our general authorities.
They are inspired.
I know it.

Back to my Rascal Flatts comparisons...
So, the next song...
"Feels Like Today"
I remember when my sister showed
us this super cool thing with this song:
She played the part of the Restoration
church video where Joseph Smith wakes
up and runs through the woods.
The words fit perfectly.

"I woke up this morning
With this feeling inside me that I can't explain
like a weight that I've carried
Been carried away, away

But I know something is coming
I don't know what it is
But I know it's amazing, you save me
My time is coming
And I'll find my way out of this longest drought...

It feels like today I know
It feels like today I'm sure
It's the one thing that's missin'
The one thing I'm wishin'
Life's sacred blessin' and then
It feels like today
Feels like today"

Imagine the Prophet Joseph Smith
as a little boy, running through the field
and this song playing.
Fits pretty well, huh?
Anyways, I love that song as well.
Later, Joseph Smith, through the power
of God, would restore the fullness of the Gospel
back to the Earth today.
"Life's sacred blessing" indeed :)
Feels like today...love it!

"Stand"
Definitely a great motivational song.
Life is filled with opposition.
In fact, the prophet Lehi in the Book of Mormon
said, "For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things."
Greaaaat.
But, it's true.
This life is a test.
I read this talk last night from the April 2011
LDS General Conference.
Beautiful.
Listen to what Elder Kent F. Richards,
of the seventy, has to say...

Opposition is part of Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness.
We all encounter enough to bring us to an awareness of our
Father’s love and of our need for the Savior’s help.
...
Our great personal challenge in mortality is to become
“a saint through the atonement of Christ.” Mosiah 3:19
The pain you and I experience may be
where this process is most measured.
In extremity, we can become as children in our hearts,
humble ourselves, and “pray and work and wait”
patiently for the healing of our bodies and our souls.
As Job, after being refined through our trials,
we “shall come forth as gold.” Job 23:10

When you feel "alone and helpless,
like you've lost your fight,
you'll be alright..."
if you grasp the Gospel and "Stand."

 :)
I love when I can apply the Gospel
to every little thing that I love.
:)
