I had a special opportunity today to attend
a Sacrament meeting where my dear
freshman roommate, the beautiful Brittni Vawd,
was giving a "farewell" talk as she is about
to enter the MTC to prepare to serve the
people of Argentina for over a year
and teach them the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I could not be more excited for her!
I remember when I first met her in person
almost 3 years ago, and I thought to myself,
"This girl would make an AMAZING sister missionary."
I know Britt didn't necessarily see herself as
going on a mission in this point of her life,
but the Lord has a plan for her,
and I am so happy that she is willing to serve Him.
She's such an example to me.
I love her to pieces.
She's fantastic.
I am so blessed to have been her roommate freshman year.
I learned so much from her.
I know I wasn't always the easiest person to live with,
and I know throughout the past two years,
we've had some rocky points in our relationship,
but she is seriously an amazing person,
and I love her so much.
I am so excited for her :)
The people of Argentina will be extremely blessed.
There are hardly any memories from freshman year
that Brittni is not a part of them.
I learned so much from her.
We had so much fun.
But, we (mostly me) had our sad/hard times as well.
I can remember one night that I was crying in bed,
and Britt crept up to my bed, and asked what was wrong.
I told her I was super homesick,
and she asked if I wanted to go visit her family with her.
At the time, I was such a brat, I think I muttered something
about not wanting to go because it would make me
miss home even more or something like that,
but looking back, I am so grateful for her kindness.
She was always trying to make others happy.
I've always admired that about her.
She's incredible.
Today in her talk she mentioned how much she
has learned from her "awesome and not-so-awesome" roommates.
I know I was probably a pain sometimes,
but I hope I am more on the "awesome roommate" side.
:)
A look at some of the fun memories
with Britt freshman year....

Dear Britt,
I am so proud of you for your decision to serve the Lord.
You are going to be an incredible missionary.
I am so grateful for you and the example you have been to me.
I have learned so much from you,
and I know you will do great work in Argentina.
Love you, lady!
-Vanester :)
P.S. I had a BLAST going through some of these pictures.
We were crazy! I love it :)

Oh my goodness, VANESSA! Thank you!! That was so sweet! I made me cry :) Gosh, we really have had sooo much fun together. It’s was really fun to look back at all of those pictures. I can’t believe it’s been almost three years since we first met!
ReplyDeleteI want you to know that I think the world of you! I’ve always been so amazed at how strong your testimony is for someone who grew up outside of Utah. I can’t imagine how much constant faith and determination it must take to live the standards of a Mormon amidst others who do not. I’ve always had a lot of respect for you because of that.
Yeah we definitely had our moments when we didn’t get along perfectly, but I feel so blessed that I got to room with you. The Lord definitely knew what he was doing when he put us together because I learned so much from you too :) Not only that, but I really think that you were the only person who could have touched me in the way that you did at that time of my life. So thank you! It’s like the song from Wicked—For Good:
“I've heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason, bringing something we must learn. And we are led to those who help us most to grow if we let them, and we help them in return. Well, I don't know if I believe that's true but I know I'm who I am today because I met you.” :)
I definitely consider you as one of my “awesome” roommates :) It’s actually really cool to look back to freshmen year because we seriously had the BEST freshmen year! My grades may not have shown that haha but we sure lived it up! We pretty much became best friends right from the start. It didn’t take long at all. I think that’s a really neat blessing.
I love you to pieces too and I am so excited to see what the future holds for you. Like maybe it’ll include marrying an extremely good looking baseball player from Minnesota who’s name might start with a J and end with an “oe?” ha Kidding.
I love you, girl!
-Britt
Also:
I will forever smile when I think back to the countless dance parties we had at our apartment. Good ol’ #299!
I love that you, Lace & I always stood in the same order for pre-dance pictures.
Ps. Remember how Lacey is married now? Weird. haha
You really did do an incredible job of the DI transformation. I hope Brandon kept that beauty of a costume!
Ohh the famous football game photoshoots. Seriously, how did we come up with so many faces to make? lol
I love that you included the pic of me in the stall of the “missing toilet” ha
The laffy taffy….. hahahaha oh gee, I hope that didn’t leave a scar!
